zoomdoggling around
the z, a letter simply fun to say for the sounds it makes, reveals its fun factor once again in a recently discovered z: zoomdoggle:
to doggle:
the simple pursuit of fun for fun’s sakezoom-doggle:
1. A blagazine built on a platform of fun and bent on getting others to join the show
2. One man’s desperate attempt to enjoy the work day and beyond.
simple enough and sounds like fun…but what of this z? Jake Bronstein, who started the blog, reveals more of z story:
It’s a blog about fun. It was started by me, Jake Bronstein, a former lad magazine editor with a bit of a history of silliness (google my name and see what comes up). It doesn’t make me money, but these days, as I consult for ad agencies coming up with fun ideas, I figure just having the name out there is a good thing.
Why blog? I started one 5 years back and got, well, probably too much attention for it,…but didn’t know where to put that attention. As I’m trying to be a fun consultant and ideator, it seemed a good idea to get back into it. My partner Josh Spear has a blog and had built a whole agency from it. So, you know…
As for the name, originally I was working with Dennis Publications to launch a magazine about fun called BOONDOGGLE. 8 months later, the project died, so I started a blog, only I couldnt get boondoggle.com. I’ve got boondoggle-magazine.com, but that seemed like a mouthful, so I went ahead and invented a word. One that was equally fun to say (though a bit less masculine). Somehow, by hook or by crook, I’m set on making “Doggle” a word on it’s own. One that means “fun” or “having fun.” Ultimately, I’d like to become a brand that represents fun. And we’re making strides in that direction.
It’s all quite simple actually. I wanted Boondoggle. No luck. So I changed in to Zoondoggle. Just a single letter off. No one understood what I was saying, then Josh’s little bro said it was cause everyone hears “Zoomdoggle”, cause “Zoom” is a word they could get their brain around. So I changed it. I’ve got both URLs. Other names I considered: Kerfuffle, Whambulator (which I own), and Dogapult (like catapult… Floyd at Cunning gave me that).
but the best z quote yet!:
My Z is all inclusive.
and the world is all the better with more inclusive self-defining z’s tirelessly transforming those accepted sleepy zzz’s
